Mexico City<\/strong> was the capital of the Aztec empire<\/strong>\u00a0which was founded in 1325<\/strong> and known by the name of the great Tenochtitlan<\/strong> in its Nahuatl language. After the conquest by the Spaniards it became the Capital of the Viceroyalty of New Spain<\/strong>. Nowadays it is the second largest city\u00a0 in the world\u00a0 with more than 20 million<\/strong> people. Currently the historic center of Mexico City known as the “Zocalo<\/strong>” is considered a World Heritage Site<\/strong> by UNESCO<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mexico City<\/strong> is one of the cities with the most museums in the world and is in second place after the city of London. Counting around one hundred and fifty-one<\/strong> officially recognized museums, more than Paris and New York. Among the most outstanding we can mention are the Anthropology <\/strong>Museum, the National History <\/strong>Museum, the Templo Mayor<\/strong> Museum, among many others.<\/span><\/p>\n

The National Museum of Anthropology<\/a> is one of the most visited and outstanding museums in the world. It has 22 rooms<\/strong> that house archaeological<\/strong> and ethnographic<\/strong> collections of indigenous cultural groups during hundreds of years of pre-Hispanic<\/strong> history. All this is considered to be a legacy to humanity.<\/span><\/p>\n

The National Museum of History in Chapultepec Castle<\/a> is an impressive building built in 1785<\/strong>, which served as a home for the Spanish viceroys, Bernardo de G\u00e1lvez<\/strong> and the Emperor of Austria, Maximilian of Habsburg<\/strong>. It has become over time a symbol of Mexico’s history by hosting the history of Mexico from the conquest of Tenochtitlan<\/strong> to the Mexican Revolution<\/strong> within its 12<\/strong> permanent exhibition<\/strong> halls. It also has 22<\/strong> rooms in the area known as Alcazar<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Templo Mayor Museum<\/a> protects the testimonies and findings of what was the main temple of the Aztec empire<\/strong>. It is located in the heart of Mexico City next to what is now the\u00a0Cathedral of Zocalo<\/strong>. It has eight rooms that shelter more than seven thousand objects and vestiges of the main temple.<\/p>\n
