The Sacred Mayan Journey<\/strong> is a ritual that recreates the pilgrimage that our Mayan ancestors made each year; crossing the ocean in canoes t<\/span>o the sacred island of\u00a0<\/span>Cozumel<\/strong> (kuzamil) to worship the goddess Ixchel.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

This Mayan ritual dates from the period from 1250<\/strong> to 1519<\/strong> AD where the Maya crossed the ocean to the sacred island called kuzami (now Cozumel) taking with them offerings for Ixchel, the Mayan goddess of the Moon, fertility, childbirth, medicine , the tides and the gestation.<\/strong> there, they performed worship with rituals, dances, ceremonies and received her divine messages for their communities.<\/span><\/p>\n

On this journey 300<\/strong> pilgrims from Playa del Carmen<\/strong>, Cancun, Cozumel and Rivera Maya<\/strong> embark on 30 canoes leaving from Xcaret, the place where the Mayan port of Pol\u00e9 was located, an important trade center and the starting point of the pilgrimages to Cozumel.<\/span><\/p>\n
